    Characteristics.
    ○ Grammar is taught deductively; students learn grammar rules by rote and then practice the rules by doing grammar drills and translating sentences to and from the target language Teacher's and student's role.
    ○ Students are expected to memorize an endless list of grammar rules and vocabulary, and produce almost perfect translations.
    ○ Teachers and learners maintain traditional roles of knowledge transmitter and knowledge receiver.
