    Interaction with New Civilization

In 1498, Da Gama laid his foot on South African soil for the first time. When he came there he saw a light skinned tribe. They wore the skin of dead animals on their heads. They had weapons made out of wood. Their food was consisting of flesh from animals, and herbs. • The British parliament abolished the slave trade.

This abolishment/law made it illegal to carry slaves in any British ship. Any captain aboard a British ship with slaves also on board would get fined 100 dollars for every slave that was accounted for. If a slave-ship knew that they were going to be captured by the British navy, the slave ship captains would throw the slaves overboard rather than having to pay the fines. This affected their history because it changed how they transported the slaves and it also stopped the trading for a while.
  • Gold is discovered in the Transvaal Providence

The Transvaal Providence was on the border of Botswana and Zimbabwe. The gold they found in this area ran for miles. The discovery of gold changed the whole Transvaal providence. In the past South Africa was in poverty, but within 10 years of finding the gold this area was known as the richest mining area in the whole world. Mining camps became towns, and then from then on people in South Africa lived differently. They created different businesses and trains later ran through this area.
  • The government of South Africa enacted a ban against racially mixed marriages.

This act was called "Act No. 55 of 1949". It was to stop marriages between white and colored people in lower Africa. The people had to register under what race they were. The reason the people to register their race was because the government wanted to make sure that different races did not get married. If a citizen broke the law they would be prosecuted/put into jail. This impacted the way they lived because they did not have the freedom of doing what they wanted to do in marriage decisions.

The reason this had such an impact in history was because the Mozambican airlines were banned due to concerns for more further flights.
