Leading up to WWII

  • Hitler's "Saturday Surprises"

    Hitler's "Saturday Surprises"
    These were invasions or military actions that Hitler had on weekends. He woud do them on weekends so that the leaders of other countries would not be able to react quickly, and be able to stop Hitler and the Nazis. He was very smart in this matter so he would not be caught.
  • Taking Austria

    During this time Hitler tried to seize and take control of Austria. He had an 11 hour talk with the Austrian Prime Minister Kurt von Schushnigg to try to talk him into the "Greater Germany." Kurt did not want to but Hitler said he had 3 days to come to a conclusion.
  • Appeasing Hitler

    Appeasing Hitler
    HItler now turned to Czechoslovakia in order to gain land. He talked to chamberland, the leader of the country, to ask for land and power. Of course, though, he denied the request. But at the last minute the leader of Italy demanded a meeting. The conclusion of the meeting was that Czechoslovakia had to give up part of their territory to Hitler.
  • Targeting Poland

    The Nazis took a group of prisoners to a concentration camp on the Polish border, dressed in Polish army uniforms. The Nazis then rounded the men up and killed them. They set the scene to be that Poland had atrtacked that camp. They then declared war on Poland just as they had wanted to.
  • Conquests in the East

    Conquests in the East
    For a while now Hitler and the Nazis had been progresionally seperating the Jews from society. But this is where he got very serious. He made all Jews wear a yellow star to distinguish them from non Jews. Also he set a curfew for all jews which was that they could not be on the streets between 9:00 P.M and 5:00 A.M.
  • Conquests in the West

    After conquering the East, the Nazis now wanted even more. They decided to try to take over the West. They controled all of Western Europe besides Britain. Britian did not give up land, they went into war with Germany, both with victory in their minds.
  • The Invasion of Russia

    On this date Hitler ordered the invasion of Russia. He stated that he wanted to destroy once and for all the "Jewish-Bolshevik menace." He sent the German army in as well as four SS units. These units served in the different sections of the invasion.
  • The USA enters the War

    The USA enters the War
    On this date, a day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the United States declared war on Japan. Germany, being allies with Japan, also waged war upon the USA. Germnay now had the Soviet Union, Britain, and the United States all fighting against them. All of them had strong drive to win the war.
