Jacqueline Storey's Journey Through the Arts

  • 1st Day of Class

    1st Day of Class
Stem becomes STEAM! I begin to find my excitement with the arts including Drama, Visual Arts, Dance and Creative Movement, and Music. Students can express emotion and find ways to problem solve. Students who are at risk have a positive outlook when they are able exercise their creativity.
  • Encounters with Puppets

    Encounters with Puppets
I engage at a puppet show. Moving past my childhood fears, I found puppets can make stories come to life. Children enjoy the creativity of how the puppets look and how the voices are created. Puppets can make lessons and books come to life. Children can speak through puppets!
  • Welcome to the Wiki

    Welcome to the Wiki
We begin to explore Wiki's. A website where we can create research, visuals, videos, and lesson plans to explore our topic. Mine is Drama. We discuss how we can begin to integrate the arts into the classrooms. Drama, the ability to perform a reenactment and reproduce an action, person, and/or event and have it come to life! Drama allows for kids to act out!
  • Patterns

How can we, as teachers, make lessons exciting to students? There are art forms in everything. This week we created art through pasta. We demonstrated way to create a rhythm, a pattern, colors, balance, and symmetry. We used this time to bond with our group too. Our group decided to create pasta using a pattern with our pasta noodles and then creating a pattern with our vegetables. Our colors were complementary colors.
  • Formative Assessments!

    Formative Assessments!
Formative assessments are assessments used to do quick checks for understanding of the students. Formative assessments could be questioning and answering, conferencing with students, active listen as small groups talk amoungst each other, nonverbal cues, etc. Summative assessments are the pencil and paper tests, or any form of test that is over a section or unit.
  • Differentiating to Meet Learners' Needs

Students can be assessed by the use of rubrics. Rubrics are a handy way to keep students accountable and have documents recorded if a parent has questions. Teachers may also assess by using exit tickets or entry tickets.

  • Fourth week

    Fourth week
Time to teach in the classroom. Our group drama is to go to a classroom and integrate drama into the lesson plan. My group members did a reader's theater. This is where students were a character and read a play pretending to be this character. I did pantimiming with Kindergarten. This is where students acted out the lifecycle of plants and animals. In the end, they acted out adult and young animals to find their families.
  • 5th week

    5th week
Last time with the drama group cleaning up the wikis. We have created an assessment for both high and low level learners. This assessment was the tic tac toe board. If the student is a high level learner, then you would have them choose the center 3 spaces to complete. For lower level learners, have them choose diagnal spaces.
  • last week

    last week
We will explore our wikis and turn in our last choice works of art. We will also explore different ways each student has used the internet and it's resources (like I used TimeToast). This is how my husband feels when I go to an art store.
