    Ivan the Terrible was born August 25, 1530 in the Grand Duchy of Muscovy, Russia. He was born to the members of the Rurik dynasty. This event in history is important because Ivan the Terrible would later go on to lead a "Reign of Terror". He was the first Czar of Russia(Andreyev).

    In 1564 Ivan the Terrible disappears from Russia. He threatened to abdicate the thrown. The Muscovite's begged for him to come back. This is significant because when he disappeared it meant that the Muscovite's didn't have a ruler(Thomas, 153).

    In 1570 Ivan led the oprinchniki troops against Novgorod. This would destroy Novgorod and execute several thousand inhabitants. Boyar's and other members of gentry period perished and some of them were publicly executed. This is significant because this episode of the oprichnina leaves an imprint on Ivan’s reign, causing doubts about his mental stability(Ivan IV).

One being that Ivan the Terrible was protecting his wife because she was seen dressed inappropriately and was killed. The other was that Ivan saw him as a threat to his rule. This was significant because it ended the Tsarevich reign (Thomas,153).

    In 1580 Yermak began his quest in Siberia.With 540 Cossacks , he started to enter territories that were dedicated to Kuchum. By 1582 Yermak was able to expand Ivan the terrible's empire east. This also let Ivan call himself "Tsar of Siberia" in his last year (Thomas, 153).
