The time in which Ivan ruled badly and killed thousands of people who he thought were traitors. This period began with the death of his wife, Anastasia, and ended with his death.

Ivan leaves Moscow, fearing revolt, and vows never to return. Ivan soon announces his intention to abdicate the throne. The people of Muscovy preferred him over the boyars, and asked him to stay in power though.

In a fit of rage, Ivan hit his son and heir, killing him. This act haunted Ivan until his death three years later.
