    The Division

    In 1947, the U.N. voted to divide the then British-controlled Palestine into Arab and Jewish states. Arab leaders rejected this division and then in May 1948, when Israel declares independence, 6 Arab states attack. Israel defeats the Arab armies and expands. Jerusalem was controlled half and half by Jordan and Israel.
  • Six Day War

    The relationship berween Jewish Israelis and its Arab neighbors got worse. Egypt expels U.N. peacekeepers and prepares armies but after they do that, Israel attacks unexpectedly. Syria, Jordan, and Iraq join in but Israel destroys the Arab forces. Israelis got East Jerusalem and the West Bank from Jordan, Gaza & Sinai from Egypt and the Golan Heights from Syria.

    Israelis taking Palestinians Land

    They have created Jewish communities in the Occupied Territories of the West Bank and Gaza. Even though the Jewish practice is illegal in these parts, Israelis think that the Jews rightfully owned the land and keep expanding. These communities have safety zones where Palestians can't farm and have some roads they can't use.
  • Yom Kippur War

    On the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, Egypt and Syria attack Israeli forces in Sinai and the Golan Heights. Israel repels both armies and a truce is declared. Israel later removes itself from parts of Sinai and Golan Heights.
  • Peace for Once?

    There are now some signs of peace. After Anwar Sadat's surprise visit to Jerusalem, Egypt becomes the first Arab nation to recognize Israel. With that, Israel now removes its whole self from Sinai.

    Intifada

    Palestinians became angered by Israel's occupation fo the West Bank and Gaza, and they began uprising with young soldiers. First suicide attack on civilians occured in 1989.This uprising of violence lasts through 1990.
