    The modern mechanical cotton gin was invented in the United States in 1793 by Eli Whitney (1765–1825). This machine could create cotton fiber mechnaical. Instead of decreasing the amount of jobs for slaves, it increased it becuase cotton fiber became cheaper, and so slaves had to work harder to plant and gather cotton.
