  • Jethro Tull Invents the Seed Drill

    To solve the problem of wasted seeds, Jethro Tull came up with the seed drill to increase the efficiency of planting crops. This in turn boosted crop yeilds allowing the population to rise.
  • John Kay Invents the Flying Shuttle

    John Kay invented the Flying Shuttle to increase the productivty of weavers. It speeded up the carrying of yarns back and forth.
  • James Watt Builds the first Steam Engine

    While Watt did not invent the steam engine, he greatly increased its speed, efficiency, and made it use less fuel. This greatly helped coal miners down in the shafts when trying to remove water.
  • Marx and Engels Publish the Communist Manifesto

    Marx and Engels published the Communist Manifesto and wrote about how all wealth in society should be shared amongst its members and that would solve the problem of the warring classes.
  • US Civil War ends; US experiences technological boom

    Directly after the Civil War, the US experienced a technological boom for a few reasons. First, the US is abundant in natural resources and had the nescessary means to make products. Second, the US was experiencing urban growth and people were moving to cities which made for cheap labor and a market for products. Lastly, the railroads made it easier to transport goods.
  • Germany becomes dominant industrial power in Europe

    Germany, although does not have abundant natural resources everywhere, did have several resource-abundant spots. To industrialize, they adopted England's railroad linking cities with resources and making an industrial giant.
  • British Unions win right to strike

    In 1875, British Unions were given a great weapon against employers, they could now legally strike. By doing so, they could negotiate for higher wages and shorter hours.
