    The first feet is when captain James cook led his fleets to island with heaps of prisoner on bored to setup a base for all the criminals. The reason heir was so many criminals was because the economy was growing dramatically and their was't enough houses for people so they had to steal to survive. So in 1788 captain James cook claimed the land as Australia.

Once people starting finding gold in Australia it started to be that you had to pay to entry the country.

    The gold rush was very important for the Australian economy because it was the first big wave of immigrants since the first fleet. Most people came from china and England to mine for their family's. Many people came with just enough money to survive but then couldn't afford to ceap mine if they didn't get any thing.
  • erueka stockade

    The Eureka stockade was one of the first protest against the government and the miners were fighting because of the mining licencee fee so they started a rebellion and built a fortress around the gold fields. When the government so their gourds low the government army went and started the fight. the fight went for 15 min and 22 miners died and 5 solders died.

    the white Australia policy was brought in by the first Federal government. Sir Edmond Barton bought in this policy so the indigenous and incoming migrants couldn't vote for the government. This policy also stop Chinese and aboriginal people entering the country the only people that could entry was the British
