  • Hammurabi's Code

    1792 - 1750 BCE
    Hammurabi is one of the recognized leaders in Mesopotamia. Shamash asked Hammurabi to make the code of laws, which had 210 laws. The purpose was to have order and respect for each other, and if Babylons refuse to follow these laws, their families, their land, warriors and troops would be cursed. Some of these laws are debatable due to the consequences being too high. Hammurabi is recognized mostly because he brought justice to the kingdom.

    Approx. the middle of the 13th century to the middle of the 11th century BCE.
    One of the judges, Deborah was the first female judge ever. In around their time, judges ruled instead of kings. That was the time before kings took over.
    Ruth was a woman from Moab who was first married to Mahlon of Judah. She was widowed.

    1013-973 BCE.
    David was a king of Israel. David had courage to fight Goliath. He picked up a sword and battled Goliath. He swung and hit Goliath on his forehead. This made David a hero, and became a king. He was the first to unite all tribes in Israel. His reign began in 1000BCE.
  • Elijah

    Approx. 875-853 BCE.
    Elijah was a prophet in Israel in the 9th century BC. Elijah raised the dead, brought fire down from the sky and ascended into heaven on a whirlwind. Elijah went to the desert and rank water and ate food. Elijah said you brought the drought to Israel to Aman. Fire came down on the bull. Elijah was holy that he didn't die.

    When Aryan tribes of Persia invaded Indus Valley, Hinduism began to form because their groups' beliefs merged.
    Mohenjo-Daro is one of the major Indus cities.
    Indus were agricultural people.

    The Aryans traveled through Europe and Asia and conquered whatever was in their path.
    Aryans weren't agricultural people and only worshipped male gods.
    Vedas were transmitted through memorization and recital. They were translated into Sanskrit which is a Hindu language developed by Aryans.
  • The Ascetics and the Upanishads

    700-500 BCE
    Ascetics were people that were dedicated to a life of special austerity and self-discipline. Ascetics chose a hermitage in the forest or gathered with others to live of intense devotion and meditation.
    Upanishads means sitting beside a guru. They were authored by ascetics between 700-500BCE. It is also the final part of the Vedas.
