Homestead had opened a settlement in the Western United States, that is to allow the American's and the slave's that are free to claim a free spot of land. At the end their where 15,000 people who claimed land out of the 260 acres. They also had grants for small farmers to farm public lands. These are just some reason's why I think that this is an important event.

They had tested it to see how everything went. They tested it on the public streets in Massachusetts. But when they went test it, they drove it would only go up to 600 feet. They would have to fix the problem. These are just a few reasons why this event is important.
