History of the computing & the internet

  • "Father of the computer"

    "Father of the computer"

Charles Babbage is known as the inventor of the first automatic digital computer. Though his design is not totally similar to computers today it is still the important because it is the first one known and acted as a foundation to more modern computer mechanics. Babbage's computer was never really completed but looking at the designs that he made, it contained most of the parts that can also be found in modern computers.
  • Alan Turing's computer

    Alan Turing's computer

In 1936 Alan Turing made a machine that he named the "Universal Machine". This machine was made to decode and perform any instructions because Turing wanted to research how humans used specific instructions to do something. This had an important role in modern computers because it played a large role in the development of electronic and general-use computers.
  • The computer mouse

    The computer mouse

In 1963 Douglas Engelbart invented the computer mouse. Engelbart created the mouse to make it easier to point and click on a display screen.
The computer mouse was an important invention for modern computers because it made computers easier to use for all kinds of people. This is one of the things that I think made computers more popular and led to their immense popularity today.
  • Microsoft was founded

    Microsoft was founded

Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. The creation of Microsoft had an impact on computing because it made PCs cheaper making the internet more accessible for more people.
  • The World Wide Web (www)

    The World Wide Web (www)

Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the world wide web in 1989. Originally the use was meant to be for scientists and universities to share information to each other easier. After a few years a web-browser called Mosaic was created by a different company and that brought attention to the www and after people started using the web it gained popularity in rapid speed.
  • The World Wide Web (www) pt.2

The World Wide Web (www) pt.2

The world wide web is important for modern computers because it opened up the internet for people that weren't scientists. This is good because it meant that computers could be used by a greater group of people which would allow for advancements to be made in computer sciences and computer technology.
The www was also good because of it's original use Even if it gained popularity with non-scientists. The scientists could still use it and it was put to good use by them.
