History of my Life

  • The Talk: Initiative versus guilt

When I was younger I lived in the big city of Aurora, Colorado, and as a 1st and 2nd grader I had a lot of energy. So much energy in fact that the teachers talked to my parents about putting me on medication for ADHD, which my parents declined because I was so young. In Erikson's third stage, initiative versus guilt, I could take the pills which would in turn probably stop my overall exuberant nature (guilt), or not take the pills and choose an outlet for my energy; like softball (initiative).
  • Winning the Spelling Bee: Industry versus Inferiority

I was eleven years old when I participated in my first ever spelling bee. With my teachers and parents help and support I worked hard and was able to place second in the competition. In Erikson's fourth stage of Industry versus inferiority, the crisis is between putting in the time and effort to practice to win the spelling bee, which contributes step by step to my success later in life (industry), or having the fear of failure and not take my chances in the competition (inferiority).
  • My choice to date: Intimacy versus Isolation

I decided to start dating a man for the first time in my life because of how strongly I felt for him, how well we got along, and how he treated me right. In Erikson's fifth stage, intimacy versus isolation, the crisis is between not dating this man in fear of getting my heart broken and keeping to myself (isolation), or taking a chance and getting close with him (intimacy).
