Advanced Studies

  • Beginning of the Year

I resumed learning about HTML and worked on finishing the codeacademy program. I reviewed what I learned last year.
  • Period: to

Advanced Sudies 1st period, 1st semester

  • Friday #1

This week I have learned quite a lot. At the beginning of the week I decided what I was going to do for my project and I wrote my proposal. On Wednesday I started CodeAcademy and reviewed the HTML basics. By the end of the day I had started a new lesson; HTML Basics II which I finished on Thursday. Then I moved on to building a social networking profile from scratch which was really interesting. Today (Friday) I finished social networking profiles and moved on to HTML III. I had a small problem
  • August

I resumed learning about HTML and worked on finishing the codeacademy program. I reviewed what I learned last year.
  • Friday #2

This week I learned how to add details like height, color, and font to large groups of information all at once using things like classes and ids in CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). I learned an easier way to get large amounts of coloring, sizing, and typing done a lot more efficiently. Also, I learned how to make website links change colors when you hover the mouse over them or click them. last of all I learned how to change the background color of the whole website at once and how to make boxes on

We have had two flood days so far and Monday and Tuesday are cancelled as well. It has been raining for days and many structures have been ruined.
  • September 1

I’m still working on HTML. I have now started to learn how to make shapes, change colors and size. Then I’m working on CSS-the styling part of HTML. I finished all of the HTML coding aspects.
  • Friday #4

This week I learned a lot about Python and how it works. I think that I’m really progressing in my coding and I’m really happy with that. I learned some of the basics of Python including data typed, variables, integers, and strings. I spent most of the last two days working on strings and different things you can do to them to make coding easier. Today I also learned more about date and times and how to pull information out of Python. On Wednesday I learned about the other data types besides st
  • Friday #5

Today I looked around on CodeAcademy and I found a way around the part that won't work right. I started learning Python again even though I had to skip a small section. I learned about more complex codes and how to make the computer do equations. Overall this week I haven't done much in the Python world, but I've gotten a lot of other projects done. I worked on practicing my HTML mostly and on catching up in math while I tried to figure out what was wrong in Python.
  • September 2

I have now moved on to learning Python. I’m learning the beginner aspects of it, which includes variables and integers. Next, I ran into some trouble with the coding website, but I resolved it and continued learning Python. I learned more about time and math on Python.
  • Friday #6

Today I finished up my program to transfer English to Pig Latin. I wasn't sure it would work very well, but in the end it was fine. When I found out it worked I was ecstatic. This week as a whole was a very good and progressive week I thought. I got a lot more done than last week and I had fun doing it too. I'm also excited about the snow!
  • Friday #7

Today I worked on Python for part of the class, but I'm having some trouble understanding the teaching and what each CodeAcademy lesson is asking me to do. I decided to look into other programming languages to see if they might be easier for me. I think on Tuesday I'm going to look into starting Ruby or I might start my research paper, so I will be contemplating this weekend. Over all this week I haven't done too much in the coding world because I was sick on Monday and so I used part of Tuesda
  • October 1

I’ve been working on Python for a while and I’ve learned a lot about how it works and the processes you use. I’m starting to learn the finer details of Python and all of the little tricks.
  • Friday #8

Even though this week was only four days, I think I made a lot of progress coding. I started Ruby at the beginning of the week and I'm already pretty far into it. I've learned that details are really important and that knowing how to type quickly and correctly definitely helps. I spent most of the time going over things like variables and statements, but I also worked on a project to turn "s"s into "th"s. I really hope next week is as productive as this week and that I learn something new and in
  • Friday #9

Today I continued to work on the Frogger game for one last day and I'm pretty happy with where I got to. I'm glad I tried to make the game because it was a good experience for me and I learned a lot. I also looked into doing NaNoWriMo on my own time because I tried to do it when I was younger with my school and I've always meant to do it again now that I'm older. Overall this week I worked mostly on the frogger game on AgentSheets and I got fairly far. I'm happy with my progress this week and I
  • October 2

I’ve switched over to learning Ruby instead of Python. I’m currently learning the basics of Ruby and I’m enjoying it a lot. I’m also considering doing NaNoWriMo in November.
  • Friday #10

Today I started my NaNoWriMo story. I'm really exited and I really like the way my story is going so far. This week I have pretty much been working on my NaNoWriMo story planning and wrapping up my coding for a while. I'm glad I decided to do NaNoWriMo and got to plan my story this week so that I'm ready to write for the next month.
  • Friday #11

Today I worked a little bit on my story, but for most of the class I looked at Khan Academy. The coding on Khan Academy is taught a bit different than the coding I learned on Code Academy and I found it interesting to see. This week I've written a lot of my story for NaNoWriMo and I have worked a lot on developing my characters in the story. I missed class on Monday, so This week has been a little shorter than usual. I can't wait to write more for NaNoWriMo.
  • Friday #12

This week I spent a little time completing my time line, but for the most part I spent the last four days typing my story for NaNoWriMo. I'm proud of my progress even though I know I'll be typing a lot over Thanksgiving Break. I like where my story is going, and even though I have a few concerns I can't wait to see what I can get done next week!
  • November 1

I have started NaNoWriMo and am off to a good start. I’m hoping to return to coding after I finish NaNoWriMo, but right now I am very happy with my story and I have a few thousand words.
  • Friday #13

Today I wrote a little bit for NaNoWriMo, but I had to finish a little work for class first. I also took a typing test and I found out I can type 38 words per minute. This week I've written a lot of my novel.
  • Friday #14

This week I've worked on getting back to coding after doing NaNoWriMo for a month. I have started coding at Khan Academy and I also signed up for hour of code.
  • Friday #15

This week I've been working on hour of code. On Monday I started to work on it, but I couldn't on Tuesday because of the power outage. Other than that I've been working on the hour of code lessons for Python and Java Script. I think the hour of code is a really good idea and program to have, and I'm really glad I got to participate in it.
