I was born in Wycoff Hospital in Brooklyn, NY

I began kindergarten in PS 202. It was an all-English speaking school. My kindergarten teacher was a Puertorican named Carmen González. I was one of four hispanics in the classroom. The teacher was very patient and spoke to me in Spanish every time she could.

My entire family moved to Puerto Rico.

I began the first grade in Rafael Cordero Elementary, in Aguadilla, PR. All the classes were taught in Spanish. I was somewhat scared to speak Spanish, but eventually got over my fear. I had a great first grade teacher.

I graduated with honors from elementary school. Now I was beginning to understand that I not only did I possess the spoken ability of both languages, but I also was perfecting the written ability.

I finally graduated High School! I graduated with honors and went on to study Education. By this time I had evolved into a completely bilingual individual.

I began my Education courses in the Interamerican University in Aguadilla. My major was Early Childhood Education k-3. I was mostly taking Spanish courses and some English courses too.

With only a few Education courses I was hired to work as a Pre-school teacher in Continental Bilingual School. I gave all courses in English. I was not only able to put to work my ability to teach, but I also noticed that I was good at being an English teacher. I had the satisfaction to teach a group of four-year-olds how to speak English, and I loved it!

I graduated CUM LAUDE from the Interamerican University, with a BA in Early Childhood Education K-3.

I began to work as a Title I Teacher for the Public School System. I loved to teach my kids English. I had students from K-4, and many of them had never experienced learning a second language. It was a great experience. Three months later I got married. (My husband didn't speak one word in English)

I obtained a Masters Degree of Special Education from the Metropolitan University. I was working as a Special Education Teacher. Unfortunately, the Special Education Program in PR doesn't include English in their subjects.
One month later, I gave birth to a handsome baby boy! -
I enrolled in the Sagrado Corazón University's Bilingual Teacher Certification Program. I am hoping to become a better Bilingual Teacher.
My husband and son are totally supporting my decision to continue my studies. My son is very excited to have mommy do her homework next to him. He is a simultaneous bilingual. By this time, my husband is slowly but surely is an emerging bilingual.
