    hammurabi's code

    Hammurabi's code is a set of laws enacted by the Babylonian empire by king Hammurabi. The code consists of 300 laws that govern from murder all the way to adoption. Most crimes a punished harshly and often that means death. this code is also where we get the term "an eye or an eye" because of the law that if you poke some ones eye out you get your eye pulled out. today in modern law we use bits of the code like prescribed punishment and codified laws and procedures.

    Justinian code

    the Justinian code was created by the emperor of the Byzantine empire Justinian. he created this with the goal of organizing and making the roman law accessible to all. many of the laws reflect his wife Theodara's interests, like improving women's rights and emphasized equality. The Justinian code can still be seen in modern day law like Innocent until proven guilty principal, the basis of civil law, and emphasis on equality

    common law was a system where judges would roam the country settling court cases and would use past cases and verdicts to produce a fair judgment known as case law. judge decisions could only be overturned by the monarch. today we still use judges and case law to produce a fair judgment.

    the magna carta was introduced the rule of law, this rule stated that everyone including kings had to abide by the law. before this kings would run wild and do whatever they wanted as they were above the law. it also introduced that entitled people charged of a crime a trial in a reasonable amount of time. in modern day the rule that no one is above the law still exists and the right to a speedy trial.

    the great law of peace was created by the Haudenosaunee, they recorded these laws and events on wampum belts.the belts are made of clam shells and were only made but expert warriors. they were the first to use the system were everyone had to approve of new laws before they could be past. they were also the first to implement a constitution to prevent unbalance and the government to do whatever they wanted.

    The Napoleonic code is a code put in place after the French Revolution. The code consists of multiple books that govern that explain different parts of the law. The first book states that all men are equal and outlines freedom of person. the second book goes over property law like property obligations. the third book deals with general law like murder, adoption and marriage. In todays law the system of putting laws into separate books making a more organized system.
