    Prehistoric times
    people began to draw since the beginning of time; the first drawing ever recorded was around 30,000-10,000 BCE and found of cave walls of Spain and France. Other drawings were also scratched carved or painted onto tools
  • Ancient Egypt

    Ancient Egypt
    In ancient Egypt, Egyptians decorated walls of temples and tombs by creating hieroglyphics,religious gods and godesses during 3,000 BCE. drawings done in ink have also been found on egypptian paper. They used techniques such as using a flat linear style to create their drawings.
  • Ancient Greece

    In Ancient Greece, they created pots and vases to create their deisgns on. they drew to create pictures of battles and myths
  • Middle Ages

    Middle Ages
    during the times 400-1400 CE, drawings were mainly used to show religious mesages and stories from the bible. Monks painted stories from prayer books for royal or wealthy families, very few paintings survived to be shown in a museum. they also drew on wood, slate, and wax; often reused for new things. Artists kept model books to keep references in or store images of human figure or subjects so they wouldnt have to use a live model each time.

    During the renaissance time, drawing began to take the form we know today. in italy, drawing became a respected art form due to the rise of paper use. drawing also became important to scientists to record their learning about the phyical world. it also becae importantdue to the interest for culture in churches palaces and public buildings.
  • Baroque Period

    during the 1600s and 1700s, a new form of drawing was introuduced. it included livelier forms with flowing lines. artists also began to use water color and ink washes as well.peter paul rubens was a well known artist during this time because he used the open composition technique- a style in which the the piece of art seems to burst through the canvas. artists began to use sketchbooks that they were able to take outside to draw landscapes.
  • 1800's and 1900's

    during the 1900's, the first pencil was made, it became the most used drawing tool.people were drawing as much as they could see.since they were beginning to draw unusual things, people began to question the traditional academic training. After began an expansion of art.
