    John Mauchly and John Presper Eckert developed the ENIAC I. This calculating machine contained 17,468 vacuum tubes, which circulated the electrons. Using the vacuum tubes instead of switches, helped the speed of the calculator.

    The transistor was invented at Bell Labs in New Jersey by John Bardeen, Walter Brattain and William Shockley. It was wired manually up until around 1959. The tranisistor was one of the main inventions for computers.
