history of computers- comp tech

  • First freely programmable computer.

    First freely programmable computer.
Konrad Zuse was a construction engineer for the Henschel Aircraft Company in Berlin, Germany at the beginning of WWII. I chose this event because I think it is an important event because we would not have all of are new technology if this was never invented.

Who was first in the computing biz is not always as easy as ABC.
Professor John Atanasoff and graduate student Clifford Berry built the world's first electronic-digital computer at Iowa State University between 1939 and 1942. I think this is important because we would never have digital electronic computers.

Baby and the Williams Tube turn on the memories.
By 1946, a winner in the data-storage game emerged that would dominate the computer field for the next several years. Sir Frederick Williams and Tom Kilburn co-invented the Williams-Kilburn Tube (or Williams Tube), a type of altered cathode-ray tube. I think this is important becasuse without this invention we would not be able to store data.

    first compitergame invented
1962 was when Steve Russell created the first popular computer game. Starwar was almost the first computer game ever written. I chose this because I like playing video games and I thought it was interesting to see what the first game ever invented was!
  • The first microprocessor.

    The first microprocessor.
In November, 1971, a company called intel publicly introduced the world's first single chip microprocessor, the Intel 4004 (U.S. Patent #3,821,715), invented by Intel engineers. I think this is important becasue we need microprocessors.
  • The first consumer computers.

    The first consumer computers.
In the early 1970s, anyone wanting to use a computer had to wait in a long line as computers were few and far apart. The desire and the market was increasing for a computer that could be used at home or in the office, the "personal computer". This is important because it is the first consumer computer created.
  • The first spreedsheet

    The first spreedsheet
VisiCalc was the first computer spreadsheet program. It was released to the public in 1979, running on an Apple II computer. While most early microprocessor computers had been quickly supported by BASIC and a few games, VisiCalc introduced a new level in application software. I think this is importnat because we use spreedsheets for a lot of things now a days.
  • Word Processors.

    Word Processors.
Released in 1979 by Micropro International, WordStar was the first commercially successful word processing software program produced for microcomputers and the best selling software program of the early eighties. This is important becasue we always use word processors in school.
  • History of the IBM PC

    History of the IBM PC
In July of 1980, IBM representatives met for the first time with Microsoft's Bill Gates to talk about writing an operating system for IBM's new hush-hush "personal" computer. This is important becasue it is the first time anyone talked about writing an operating system.
  • Inventors of the Modern Computer

    Inventors of the Modern Computer
In December, 1983, Apple Computers ran its' famous "1984" Macintosh television commercial, on a small unknown station solely to make the commercial eligible for awards during 1984. The commercial cost 1.5 million and only ran once in 1983, but news and talk shows everywhere replayed it, making TV history. This is important becasue its the modern computer. We use computers in school everyday. Think if we did not have them.
