    History of computer could be traced back to the effort of man to count large numbers .
    The first calculating device called ABACUS was developed by the Egyptian and Chinese people.
    The word ABACUS means calculating board.

    English mathematician John Napier built a mechanical device for the purpose of multiplication in 1617 A D. The device was known as Napier’s bones.

    BLAISE PASCSL
    Blaise Pascal developed the 1st Mechanical Calculator about 1642. The machine only performed addition.

    In 1690 Leibniz developed a machine that could add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate square roots.

    In 1801 Joseph Jacquard a French Textile manufacturer invented punched card to create patterns in fabric woven on a loom.
    It was used in the textile industry.

    In 1823 a British Professor at Cambridge University Charles Babbage conceived the programmable computer.
    He is considered to the father of modern digital computer. Thus he invented an Automatic Calculating Machine named Difference Engine.

    In 1890 Dr.Herman Hollerith developed the 1st electro mechanical data processing machine.
    It was used in the 1890 census.
