    In 1936, Konrad Zuse introduced the Z1 Computer. This event is important to the computer timeline because it was one of the first steps in making the programable computer we know today.
  • First Video Game Invented

    First Video Game Invented
    Steve Russel and MIT release a Spacewar computer game. This is an important event in the history of computers because after this, computer software was able to be produced and eventually develop into the games and software we know today. This is especially important because today, many people practically live on their phones, playing games and using various APPs. This all started with the original video game.
  • ARPAnet

    ARPAnet
    The ARPAnet, the precursor to the internet, is introduced. It was a large WAN crated by the United States Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA). It originally linked universities and research centers. The third node to form the ARPAnet was the University of Utah. This invention was significant because it grew to become possibly the most important development in the world of technology: the internet. In 2013, nearly everything we do requires or in some way involves the internet.
  • First Microprocessor

    First Microprocessor
    Faggin, Hoff & Mazor introduce the Intel 4004 Computer Microprocessor. This invention was very important because as the "heart" of the computer, the CPU is one of the most important parts of the computer. This invention allowed for development of a computer that is closer to what we know today.
  • Email Invented

    Email Invented
    The first commercial email company, Comet, was introduced. This was a major inovation because email has grown to be one of the biggest ways to communicate in today's world. Not only that, but as email grew, other things like Instant Messaging came about.
  • ILS's Enter Schools

    ILS's Enter Schools
    Schools begin to use Integrated Learning Systems. ILS's were a cost-effective way of using computers to teach required curriculum. ILS's were a network of computers in a school. This was an important event because as we speak, technology in education is growing. This event allowed for the doors of technology in the classroom to be opened, and now students can get a better education because of the ILS's. It also allowed for computers to connect in new ways at a school, making it more convenient.
  • Disney Movie Tron Released

    Disney Movie Tron Released
    Tron, released by Disney in 1982, was the first movie that used Computer Generated Special Effects. This was important because now, we can use computers to do a myriad of things such as advanced animation and advanced special effects in movies, TV Shows, and video games.
  • First Internet Browser Introduced

    First Internet Browser Introduced
    Mosiac, the first internet browser is introduced. It changed a formerly text-only internet to an internet that allowed one to view text and images. This is significant because the internet we know today would not be possible if you could not view images on the internet. After the first internet browser was available, it could be developed to gain features that we know today, and we can now view images, videos, and hear MP3 in addition to the text.
  • My Space Launched

    My Space Launched
    In August of 2003, pop singer Justin Timberlake, along with Specific Media LLC, launched My Space. My Space is a social networking site, similar to Facebook. This was an important event because shortly afterwards, Facebook, then Twitter were released. Recently, myriads of other sites and apps like Instagram, Vine, and others were introduced. My Space started the revolution of social networking that has become an integral part of everyone's lives today.
  • The Original iPhone

    The Original iPhone
    Apple releases its first iPhone. This is a very important invention because after the release of the iPhone, development of smart phones took over. Since then, nearly every major cell-phone company has begun to manufacture smart phones, and Apple has continued the development of the iPhone. In 2013, the iPhone 5 has recently been released and nearly every person you meet owns some type of smart phone, iPod Touch, or tablet, all because of Apple's original iPhone.
