    -The first freely programmable computer
    -The reason I chose this event is because without a programmable computer, Bill Gates couldn't have been able to program and invent Microsoft.
  • The Complex Number Calculator was completed

    The Complex Number Calculator was completed
    -In 1939, Bell Telephone Laboratories completed this calculator, designed by researcher George Stibitz. In 1940, Stibitz demonstrated the CNC at an American Mathematical Society conference held at Dartmouth College.
    -The reason I choose this event is because it was one of the first steps toward computers. Even though it was just numbers, it still started a path toward today's computers.
  • UNIVAC Computer

    UNIVAC Computer
    -First commercial computer & able to pick presidential winners. Also, 1,905 operations per socond could be performed on the computer.
    -I picked this event because it was a big step that was taken towards advancements in computers. Also, the computer could be used but anyone that could afford it which is another step in the process of diffusing the computer.
  • IBM 1360 Photo-Digital Storage System is delivered

    IBM 1360 Photo-Digital Storage System is delivered
    -In 1967, IBM delivered the first of its photo-digital storage systems. The system could read and write up to a trillion bits of information. The 1360 used thin strips of film which were developed with bit patterns via a photographic developing system housed in the machine.
    -The reason I picked this is because photo storage is really important nowadays. When we save photos, we don't know that it took a lot of work to develop the technology.

    First Email Sent
    -Ray Tomlinson, who worked at the firm Bolt, Beranek and Newman sent the first e-mail when he was supposed to be working on a project. Tomlinson, who is credited with being the one to decide on the "@" sign for use in e-mail, sent his message over a military network called ARPANET.
    -I chose this because email is a big part our daily lives. They take the place of letters.
  • Steve Woznaik designed the Apple I

    Steve Woznaik designed the Apple I
    -This is a single-board computer, with specifications in hand and an order for 100 machines at $500 each from the Byte Shop. He and Steve Jobs got their start in business.
    -The reason I chose this was because Apple is one of the biggest kind of computers there is today. Also, we use apple computers at school.
  • Apple Launches Machintosh

    Apple Launches Machintosh
    -Apple Computer launched the Macintosh which was the first successful mouse-driven computer with a graphic user interface. It was based on the Motorola 68000 microprocessor.
    -The reason I picked this is because our laptops are Macs. Also, this was a big step into today's technology
  • Yahoo Founded

    Yahoo Founded
    -Yahoo was founded by Stanford graduate students Jerry Yang and David Filo. Yahoo had started out as "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web" before it was renamed to Yahoo.
    -I chose this event because Yahoo is widely used. It is a major search engine that helps people look at news, email, etc.
  • The iPod Touch was released

    The iPod Touch was released
    -The first iPod had Wi-Fi and a multi-touch interface. It features Safari web browser and wireless access to the iTunes Store and YouTube. The 16 and 32 GB versions were added later.
    -This has significance for a couple reasons. The iPod was a big step in the computer world because it was small and portable, more so than computers. The next reason is that it was a big step in the music industry.
  • iPhone 5 Comes Out

    iPhone 5 Comes Out
    -The iPhone is currently the most advanced iPhone yet. It is the fastest and has the most up to date software.
    -I chose this event because it is the most recent iPhone to be released. It has very advanced features.
