    The Stonewall Riots of 1969 took place in New York City. Following a police raid on the stonewall inn members of the comunity began to have violient demonstrations in protest of these raids against homosexual people. Many beleive that this was the event that got the ball rolling for the gat liberation movement.
  • Harvey Milk's Election

    Harvey Milk's Election
    Harvey Milk was the first openly gay politicain to be elected to office of mayor in a california city. He served 11 months in office. In 1978 Dan White assassinated Harvey Milk. His assassination erupted a whole new fight for gay rights.

    Don't Ask, Don't Tell
    The Dadt was a United States offical policy that barred openly gay people from serving in the millitary. It also forbade people from asking or telling if they were. If a millitary personel became openly gay while in service he/she would be discharged.

    supreme court rules that its unconstitutional to deny gays protection against discrimination.

    The U.S Defence of Marriage Act was passes in september of 1996. This act restricts marraige benefits to same sex marriage. It also required inner-state recognition to oppisite sex marraige.
  • Matthew Shepards's Murder

    Matthew Shepards's Murder
    On October 7th 1998 Mathew shepard was murdered. It is beleived that he was tageted because of being homoesexual. He was beaten and torured and tied to a fence and left to die. He was found but his injuries were to sever and he passed.

    It Gets Better Project
    The "It Gets Better" Project started as a youtube video channel by Dan Savage. His goal in creating this was to get the message out to GLBT youth that while it is hard now during your teen years it does get better after those years are behind you. This project was met with immediate popularity with hundreds of videos and over 50 million views the project is begining to take effect.

    New York becomes the largest state to legalize gay marraige

    DADT was offically repealed in september of 2011. the idea was brought forward in 2010. acted upon in july of 2011 and put into effect in september of 2011. offically ending DADT.

    This order banned homosexuals from working for the federal governement.
