On the 28th of June 1914 the Archduke and his wife, Sophie, were on a goodwill to visit the city of Sarajevo. During the parade a Serbian nationalist, Gavrilo Princip saw the opportunity to express his feelings towards the rulers. He shot and killed the Archduke and the Archduke's wife.

Austria-Hungary presented 10 demands to Serbia because of the assassination of the Archduke and his wife. Serbia agreed to 9 of these demands but agreeing to all 10 of them would mean Serbia had lost independence.

After the 10 demands were presented to Serbia, accepting only 9 of them meant all negotiation broke down. One month after the assassination Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia.

Serbia turned to their ally Russia for support. Russia was also a Slavic nation so they had promised to protect Serbia and because of its ally in the Triple Alliance, Germany. Russia then began to prepare their army for war.

Germany then demanded that Russia are to stop all they're preperations. When Russia didn't respond, Germany declared war on Russia.

Germany had planned to send troops on an all out attack on France by passing through Belgium. This plan was aimed to bring down France before the Russian army was ready for war. This was called The Schlieffen Plan.

Britians foreign secretary, Sir Edward Grey, sent an ultimatum to Germany demanding their withdrawal from Belguim. Germany did not accept this demand so Britian declared war on Germany.

The Australian Federal Government decided that in the event of WW1 they would offer Britian a military force of 20,000 men and place the Royal Australian Navy under the control of the British Admiralty.

Between 26th of February and the 3rd of March. The Royal Marines arrived in Turkish forts on the mainland and at Sedd-el-Bahr in Gallipoli.

The Germany army delivered a crushing blow to Russia at Tenneberg at the start of the WW1. Russians were threatend by the Turkish. The British strategists they had for many years before the war, they believed the best defence on Egypt and the Suez Canal was to attack Turkey.

Members of the Australian imperial force landad at Gallipoli together with their troops from New Zealand, Britian and France. Australian forces fought campaigns on the Western Front and in the Middle East.

The reason for the 'Gallipoli Campaign' was for the British to capture the Ottoman Empire Capital and they also wanted to secure their trading route with Russia. With the secure trading route with Russia, the British forces were able to supply Russia with ammunition, resources and reinforcements. This would hopefully win the war for the allied nations and stop the German and Austria-Hungary forces on the Western front.

A storm swept over the peninsular in late November which resulted in rain flooding trenches which men drowned in and it also drenched everything.The snow and the cold left many soldiers dea. The soldiers that survived from both sides were cold,miserable and they were barely able to continue fighting so the Government reluctantly agreed to withdraw from Gallipoli. The evacuation went well without any problems and the Anzacs left sulva and Anzac.

The peace meeting was held in Paris. The paris peace confrence was the meeting of the Allied Victors, following the end of the World War 1 to set the peace for the defeated Central Powers following the armistices of 1918. It took place in 1919 and involved diplomats from more than 32 countries and nationalities.

The Treaty of Versailles is signed as a peace agrement after WW1 had ended.
