    Calling of Estate Generals
    July 1787 Comptroller-General Lomiene de Brienne, asked the Parlement du Paris to register the tax on property of all three estates. The Parlement refused and France entered a year of intense conflict between the royal government and the parlements. On July 5, 1788, with the government at a standstill, and in spite of his misgivings, Louis XVI gave in to the demands of the nobility and issued an edict calling the Estates General to meet in May 1789.

    The Third Estate was locked out of its meeting room as preparations were being made for a royal session of all three estates. Confused and angry, the delegates met instead at an indoor tennis court on the palace grounds and signed an oath not to disband until they had drawn up a new, fair constitution for France.

    Napoleaon trys to use this system to make an alliance, so no one would treade with Britain. This system was called the Continental System. No one listened to this system and it weakend France because they lost trade with Britain.

    Spanish get angry with France crossing through to attack Portugal. Spanish attack france. France is weakened greatly and is forced to send over extra troops. 300,000 men died in the war known as the Penninsular War.

    Portugal refused to be a part of the continental system. This made France angry and they went threw spain to attack Portugal.

    The Russian's did not participate in the continental system making france mad. When they arived for war the found the area burnt to the ground not leaving one resource or anything france could use. France lost the war.

    After his loses in Russia, the third coalition came after Napoleon. Napoleon tried to fight back, but the generals refused and banished him to the island of Elba as punishment.
