French and Indian War to the Declaration of Independence- What led up to it?

  • End of French and Indian War

    After 9 years of fighting, Britain wins the French and Indian war and gains land.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    England issues the Proclamation of 1763, in which England gained more land. However, colonists were not allowed to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains
  • Sugar Act of 1764

    This Act forced colonists to pay taxes for cloth, sugar, coffee, and wine. Products such as tobacca, sugar, and timber was to only be sold to Britain. The purpose was so that the colonists could not smuggle items into other countries. Writs of Assisstance were also established, who were search warrents.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    The Stamp act was made so that every legal document, newspaper, pamphlet, and even decks of cards would have a tac on them. However, colonists were very clever in not paying these taxes.
  • Declaratory Act of 1766

    The Declaratory Act allowed the parliament to pass any law, at any time. The purpose was so that the colonists would be reminded of who was in charge
  • Townshend Acts of 1767

    The Townshend Acts required the colonists to pay taxes for tea, paper, glass,and paint products.
  • Tea Act of 1773

    The purpose was to protect the "East Indian Company". The rule was so that the colonists were to only buy tea from the East Indian Company.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Colonists were angry of the unfair laws that England was passing. It was a political protest where people dressed as the Natives snuck on English ships and dumped tea boxes over the boat.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Congress approved the text of the Delaration of Independence, saying that the colonies were n longer interested in being a colony of England anymore.
