    on July 26 1953, Castro leads an armed up rising against the military dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.The guerrillas (a group of soldiers and fighters, lead by Che Guevara, along side Fidel Castro) held their ground, launched a counterattack and wrested control from Batista on January 1, 1959. Castro arrived in Havana a week later and soon took over as prime minister. At the same time, revolutionary tribunals began trying and executing members of the old regime for alleged war crimes.

Fidel killed Rojas on Los Paredones (the wall) with a shot to the head.

The reason that Fidel Castro had to step down was because his health had worsened and had to undergo a surgery for internal bleeding on July 21, 2006. With his state of health he passed the power to his brother in February 2007, but it was not until February 24, 2008 where his brother officially became president because the National Assembly of People's Power unanimously voted for Raul.
