    After a civil war the Abbasid famimly came to power. Abu'l Abbas became the first Abbasid caliph. Arabic language became the official language in all countries in the Islamic Empire. they made Iraq the centre of the empire. Baghda became the new capital in 763 before being destroyed in 1258

    The Mamluks

    gtribes from Central Asia invaded the Islamic world. In 1258 Baghdad was destroyed by Hulegu. The centre of Islamic life moved out of Iraq to Damascus in Syria and Cairo in Egypt.
