Evolution Of The PC

  • First Computer

    First Computer
(exact date unknown)Charles Babbage develops the Difference Engine, the first ever computer that could store data and compute to commands. Made with wrenches and screws since it was mechanical. Was a mechanical computer so it used gears and switches instead of electronics to function. used by no one only and invention to benefit further development in computers. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000984.htm
  • ENIAC

    ENIAC
(not specific date) John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert build the first ever electronic super computer. The ENIAC takes up one whole room and uses 18,000 vacuums to move data. Over a span of ten years the ENIAC does calculations for the army and other government programs. Fun fact : the ENIAC solved more equations than humanity has done without computers. http://www.computerhistory.org/timeline/computers/
  • Keyboards

    Keyboards
(not specific time) Doug Ross, a researcher at MIT, looks at direct access into computers electronically than punching in cards in order for the computer to respond to commands. He came up with the keyboard and improved programming in computers exponentially. http://www.computerhistory.org/timeline/computers/
  • ATLAS

    ATLAS
(Exact Date Unknown) First ever computer to use the optical disk to store information. was very important because it developed the idea that computers could transfer data over through a disk. also, was first ever computer to use a OS(Operating System). Was made by Ferranti, Plessey, and Manchester University. http://www.computerhistory.org/timeline/computers/
  • Mouse

    Mouse
(exact date not found) made by Douglas Englebart and was very simple contraption. the mouse constituted of a wooden box with two circular wheels to help move with one red button in the top right corner. Was further developed into a "ball mouse" by Bill English which we all use today. http://www.computinghistory.org.uk/det/613/the-history-of-the-computer-mouse/
  • Magnavox Odyssey

    Magnavox Odyssey
(Exact date not found) Invented by Ralph Baer during his time working at Sanders Associates the Magnavox Odyssey could play only one game where one would hit a ball across the screen and try to get it past the other persons paddle. This game was known as PONG. the invention of this first ever PC known just for fun help spark an idea that computing could not only be used as a calculation machine but for something to add fun to childrens lifes. http://www.pong-story.com/odyssey.htm#P1
  • TRS-80

    TRS-80
(exact date not found) Radio Shack makes the first ever official "PC". Made for the average consumer household at $600 and could preform everyday task that every person needed such as calculating accounting and storing important info. http://www.computerhistory.org/timeline/computers/
  • IBM PC

    IBM PC
(Exact date not found) Due to IBM being known as a high brand this computer was adopted into large industries throughout the country leading to the first ever time that people over a widespread area had a basis for a computer and companies could now design peripherals and hardware to best fit the needs of those people. http://www.computerhistory.org/timeline/computers/
