    Otto Von Bismark used war to unify Germany.

    Otto Von Bismark´s greatest goal was to keep Germany in peace, so he used war to unify Germany and after this he declared Germany to be a "satisfied power".

    Several miliary alliances were created.
    Growing rivalry and mutual mistrust had lead to the creation of several military alliances among the great powers, its purpouse was to keep peace in Europe.

    The Triple Alliance was between Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy.

    Kaiser Wilhelm II let his nations treaty with Russia lapse that same year so Russia formed a defensive military alliance with France. Now Germany would be forced to fight a war on it's eastern and western boarders.

    Germany foreign policy changed when Wilhelm II forced Bismarck to reign. Wilhelm was eager to show the world how mighty Germany had become.

    Russia decided to create a military alliance with France between the years 1892-1894 for protection. This proposed a challenge for Germany who would now have to fight on both its west and east sides.

    Nationalism was developed coupled with a great rivalry among Europe’s great powers; Germany, Austria-Hungary, Great Britain, Russia, Italy and France. Other factors were competition for materials and market and territorial disputes.

    Bsnia and Herzegovina were two Balkan areas with large slavic populations. The tensions between Serbia and Austria steadily rose.

    The archduke of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and his wife Sophie were visiting Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia. A 19 year old Serbian, member of the Black Hand shot them while they were driving in an open car.

    Serbian leaders agreed to most of Austria´s demands but they offered to half others settled by an international conference.

    Ausrtia did not want to negotiate with Serbia, so they declared war. Immediately, Russia that was Serbia´s ally took action.
