    Boston tea party

    A group of colonists organized in port cities to stop the East India company tea from being unloaded. At night a large crowed threw 3342 cases of tea into the harbor. they destroyed 90000 pounds of tea worth thousands of dollars.
  • Albany Congress

    The British government called a meeting of the colonial leaders. The British hoped that the other colonies would cooperate in defending themselves against the French. it was a meeting in Albany ,New York. the British also invited the Iroquois to the meeting to form an alliance they refused because they thought the British was going to loose.

    French and indian war

    french / NA's vs. British colonists and the Iroqouis. The reason for the war is for control over the Ohio River valley. THE British win the war. France last the entire Empire in North America.
  • Treaty of Paris

    In Pars Britain and France signed the treaty of Paris. France lost almost all of their North American possessions because they lost.
  • The Quartering act

    Parliament passed the Quartering act which was used to save money. So Britain kept about 10000 soldiers. They wanted colonist house British troop and provide them with food and other supplies. the colonist protested angrily. Once again the colonist complained that Parliament was violating their rights.

    Pontiac's war

    west of the Appalachian Mountains Pontiac and his allies attacked British forts and settlements because the proclamation of 1763 angered them. British forts were destroyed and at least 2000 back country settlers were killed. In result the British won.

    The British wanted to avoid further wars so they made the proclamation of 1763. It banned colonial settlement west of a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. This angered many colonist so they ignored it.
  • Sugar act

    The British passed the sugar act which put a tax on several products. It also called for harsh punishment of smugglers . colonial merchants protested.
  • Stamp act

    Parliament passed an unpopular act called the Stamp act. It required that all colonists buy special tax stamps for all kinds of products and activities. Protests against the stamp act were widespread. Patrick Henry made an emotional speech attacking the law. Merchants oganized a boycott of British goods. Nine colonies got together and sent a petition. In 1766 Parliament repealed the stamp act.

    In Boston an angry crowd of workers and sailors surrounded a a all group of soldiers. They shouted and through snow balls at the soldiers. Frightened, the soldiers fired into the crowd killing 5 of them and wounding 6. They were arrested and tried for murrder. 2 soldiers were guilty and had their thumbs branded.
  • tea act

    Parliament passed the tea act which lowered the price of tea allowing the East India company to ship tea directly to the colonies. the colonists reacted angrily to the part that gave East India company a monopoly on selling British tea. The monopoly hurt the merchants.
  • intolerable acts

    The Boston tea party outraged the British government so in response they passed four laws. First they closed the of Boston two others increased the powers of the royal governor. They abolished the upper house and cut powers of town meeting and strengthened the 1765 quartering act.
  • First continental congress

    General Thomas sent 700 troops to seize the arms and capture some important colonial leaders. Then Paul Revere rode through the night to warn the minutemen that troops are coming.
  • Battles of Lexington and concord

    about 77 minutemen were waiting when the British arrive. The British told them to go home but they refused so it turned into a war. The minutemen chased the British back and by the time the British reached Boston almost 300 of them had been killed or wounded.
  • The second continental congress

    as the crisis with Britain deepened the second continental congress came together in Philadelphia. At first the congress was divided about what to do. delegates wanted to declare independence. The congress chose George Washington as the commander of the Continental army.
  • battle for fort ticonderoga

    colonists were planning a surprise attack on fort Ticonderoga. Fort Ticonderoga was important for two reasons. it controlled the main route between Canada and the Hudson river valley and also held valuable weapons especially cannons. George Washington used them to drive the British from the city.

    two resolutions passed. the first resolution was called the olive branch petitionand was sent to king George. The resolution stated that the colonists were loyal to the king. It asked George to stop the fighting

    the American commander knew his soldiers didn't have much ammunition. The Americans waited for the British to be 150 feet away to fire. The British won because the Americans ran out of ammunition.

    the americans attaced Quebec during a snow storm. the attack was turned back. Montgomery was killed. the americans were weakened by hunger and disease.
