It was detailed by members of Parliament and represents one of the greatest milestones in English history. Constitutional reform was unheard of at the time: milestone. Unclear whether women were included from this document, as at the time they were not considered equals at this time in Europe. Official documentation would increase credibility. -
The Oath of The Tennis Court
This speech is to the Third Republic during the French Revolution. It remains unclear who is presenting. The National Assembly was eventually created and deliberated demands for reform. Though the king declared their deliberations invalid, he soon-after announced substantial reforms. The urge for liberty and rights characterizes these unprivileged masses. The French Revolution represents the first significant opposition to monarchical absolutism on behalf of popular sovereignty – Third Estate. -
Carl Schurz: A Look Back at 1848
Diary entry by Carl Schurz, German revolutionary. Initially private. Released for public consumption in 1907. Written during the wake of the German Revolution. Rapid communication about revolutions and their ideas is notable. His enthusiasm and spirit may be attributable to his privileged position – contrast with a struggling peasant. Provides insight into the evolving nature of Revolutions, where we see neighbouring Revolutions and ideas influencing the trajectory of those to come. -
Lenin: Call to Power
Vladimir Ilyich Lenin’s to the Bolshevik revolutionaries, presumably in private. Earlier that day Alexander Kerensky shutdown Bolshevik newspapers. Later that evening, the coordinated uprising of the Bolshevik revolutionaries started the October Revolution. Sense of urgency highlights the uncertainty of the situation. Source demonstrates how divided Russian society was, leaving seemingly no room for civil negotiation. Anticipates the domination of Lenin’s Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
