    For thousands of years Egypt was conquered by many foreigners. During this time period the Brooklyn Papyrus was discovered and was a medical advance for people who received animal bites. This time period was the last bit of a great culture before it diminished. Once Cleopatra died, the Romans came in and took over.

    New Kingdom

    New Kingdom
    The kingdom became to be known as the Egyptian Empire. Pharaoh Ahmose I defeated and expelled the Hyksos bringing the empire back together. The period developed the Egyptian's to a militaristic and imperialistic path. Which led to the development of a more professional army. It was the most powerful state in ancient Near East. Egypt no longer focussed on being isolated and bacame active politically and diplomatically. The state reached its height during the reign of Amenhotep III.
  • Second Intermediate Period

    Second Intermediate Period
    The Middle Kingdom came to an end with an invasion by the Hyksos. They came to dominate Egypt during this period. There presence in Egypt brought new adavances to the region, giving a positive effect on Egypt. The Hyksos taught them how to use bronze for tools and weapons. As well as, new aspects of warfare like the horse-drawn chariot, a heavier sword, and the compound bow. The Egyptian then used their new knowledge to throw out the Hyksos.
  • Middle Kingdom

    Middle Kingdom
    The king of Thebes, Mentuhotep reunified all of Egypt. The history centered around the 12th dynasty found by Amenemhet. The middle kingdom was characterized by a new concern of the pharaohs for the people. It was known as the Golden Age because of the stability. 4 regions were established and embarked expansion. Written language was regularlised and "instruction for Merikare" was the most important. Queen Sobeknefru was the first female monarch and marks the end of the kingdom.
  • 1st Intermediate Period

    1st Intermediate Period
    This period is also known as the "dark period." There is little monumental evidence from this time. The rise of Theban kings brought a new artsyle that was provincial. There were 2 geographical regions and rule was divided between them. They were located at Memphis and Thebes. Eventually Mentuhotep II reunited Egypt into one with 1 main ruler.
  • The Old Kingdom

    The Old Kingdom
    This period took place in Memphis Egypt through the 3rd-6th dynasties of Egyptian kings. This time period brought prosperity and splendor. The knowledge of art expanded and new uses of stone and wood were used. The construction of the largest pyramids were in this time. However the Old Kingdom collapsed due to the downfall of the economy. A drought had come, therefore the river dried and transportation was unavailable.
  • The Nile

    The Nile
    The Nile, which is the longerst river in the world, was vital to the beginning of Egyptian civilization. The river floods every summer and is leveled in the fall. With the knowledge of knowing this, people were able to find new ways of transportation and agriculture. Thus, settlements began around 5200BCE. By 3100 BCE, the Egyptian civilization was the 1st recognizable nation state.
  • Early Dynastic Period

    Early Dynastic Period
    The 1st royal Egyptian dynasty was under the rule of king Menes. During this period, upper and lower Egypt were united. Since the king combined these two, he is called "king of upper and lower
    Egypt". One of the royal crowns would be the double crown which would combine the white crown of upper Egypt to the red crown of Lower Egypt. This was to unite the two parts politically.
