Stephen F. Austin had received a grant from the Mexican government and began colonization in the Brazos River region. Also the Mexican government approves Austin's plan to bring 300 families over into his new colony. -
Considered to be the first or opening battle of the Texas Revolution. Battle occurred out of Mexican troops attempt to retrieve a cannon from the Gonzales colonists that had been given to them to protect from Indian attack. As a result the residents of Gonzales challenge the Mexican troops to "COME AND TAKE IT". -
On March 1,1836, delegates held the Convention of 1836 at Washington-on-the-Brazos, where they had drafted the Texas Declaration of Independence. The next day, March 2, 1836, the Texas declaration of independence was adopted. -
Texan troops led by Sam Houston, defeated the Mexican army, led by Santa Anna at San Jacinto. The battle lasted a total of 18 minutes. It was at this battle that the famous line "Remember The Alamo!" was made. Santa Anna was captured at the battle and Texas won their independence, marking the beginning of The Republic of Texas. -
U.S President, James Polk, follows through with a campaign promise to annex Texas into the U.S. Texas becomes the 28th state of the United States -
War broke out between Mexico and the United States as a result of disputes over claims to Texas boundaries. -
The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is signed, ending the War between the United States and Mexico. The treaty would also specify the location of the international boundary. -
As a means for trying to settle boundary disputes and pay back public debt, Texas gave up about one-third of its territory in this compromise, in exchange for ten million dollars from the federal government of the United States. -
The Secession Convention approves an ordinance withdrawing Texas from Union on February 1, 1861. This action is ratified by voters on February 23, 1861 in a referendum vote. Secession from the Union for Texas becomes official on March 2, 1861. -
The United States Congress readmits Texas into the Union. -
The Railroad Commission, which was proposed by Governor James Hogg, is established by the Texas legislature as a means of regulating freight rates as well as establish rules for railroad operations
