    In the Treaty of Paris cuba gained freedom from Spain. And with Cuba's new constitution, the USA had the rights to intervene in cuban affairs, finances and foreign relations.

    Cuba after American influence

    After America gained its authority to intervene with Cuban affairs, America forced the Cubans to sell raw materials for cheap prices and forced them to buy American manafactured goods. America also ruled the economy of Cuba, the railway system , telephone system, tobacco plantation, and 2/3 of agreeculture land was owned by America, also America took the Guantamano bay for its Navy base.
  • Cuba in the 1950s

    After many years of American influence, unhappiness was spreading between the Cuban people. Many Americans visited Cuba for illegal things like drinking, gambling and prostitution. All governors were favourable to America and they received payment from American businessmen. The government was so corrupted that an American journalists said "Brothels flourished. A major industry grew around them: Governments officials recieved bribes, polices collected protection money. "
  • Cuban revolution

    In 1959 Cuba was under revolution. The American favourable president Batista was overthrown by the revolutionary Fidel Castro. Castro promised to end American corruption in the country. And after the revolution, many American industries like telephone company was nationalised, and lands were taken from the americans to the Cuban people. Castro also made lots of changes that favored the Cuban people. However he didn't keep the propmise on free election.
  • The Bay of Pigs invasion

    In 1960 the American Government used $13million budget to drw out a plan for assault landing and guerrila warfare to remove Castro. However all the plans were already known by Castro and the plan failed. The airstrike missed andwhen the troops landed they were surrounded with 20,000 Cuban soldiers and the invasion failed. The captured troops were used for propaganda and were exchanged 20 months later.
