    reasons for failure:
    * poor secrecy: exiled cubans in miami found out and Castro was informed by Cuban intelligence
    * failure to control the air: the air strikes missed many of their targets.
    * failure to gain support: few of the cuban population joined the invaders.
    * response: castro ordered around 20,000 troops to advance to the beach
