The election of 1960 meant that U.S. citizens would have to choose a new leader to help the country navigate through the growing tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union and its communist allies. -
The CIA and 1400 Cuban refugees landed in the Bay of pigs. They were overwhelmed and many of them were captured. The U.S. then had to pay a ransom of $53 million in food and medicine to the Cuban government.
