Fidel Castro was a communist and attemped his own revolution. He wanted to establish a regime that promoted moderate reforms and political liberties. His first revolution attempt on June 26, 1953 was a failure, and on October 16, 1953, Castro was put in jail.

On October 22, 1962, John F. Kennedy issued a formal demand to the Soviet Premier Kikita Khrushchev that the missiles be removed from Cuba.

On October 28, 1962, a settlement was reached to end the Cuban Missile Crisis. Nikita Khrushchev agreed to stop sending missles to Cuba and to return the missiles that were already in Cuba to the Soviet Union. Kennedy had agreed to not invade Cuba and to remove U.S. nuclear armed missiles from Turkey.
