When Franny was outside at recess, it was completely normal. Then an ear-piercing siren rang constantly, driving kids to go crazy. They all ran into each other, tripped over each other, and teachers tried to calm them down. Soon enough, they were all ducking against the wall with their hands covering their heads. -

Uncle Otts tries to build bomb shelter
While the parents were away for an afternoon, Uncle Otts had to watch Franny and her brother, Drew. He showed up with a lot of supplies and dumped them in the back yard. Franny and Drew were ordered to help dig a bomb shelter in the back yard, but their parents showed up and stopped them from ruining the back yard. -
Franny's father leaves for the air force
Ever since the Cuban Missile Crisis, Franny's father had been gone a lot more. He's been called in for work in the army. Now he is going in the air force against Cuba. -
President Kennedy warns people about Cuba.
Franny and her family turn on President Kennedy's speech. He explains the problem with Cuba and that bombs are being pointed toward where Franny lives. Also, he asks Chairman Krushchev to stop trying to destroy world peace. -
Everyone is worried about Cuba.
The next day, everyone is distressed about the speech. No one talks about it much at first, but then at school there is a assembly about it. It teaches the students to be prepared for any attack. Franny finds herself frightened as ever. -
Franny's family builds bomb shelter.
After the JFK speech, Franny's mother decides it's time to create a bomb shelter in the basement. Franny's whole family, besides her dad who's in the air force, stocks the shelter with food and resources. Franny finally realizes how serious things have gotten. -
Everyone is listening to news.
News about Cuba is spreading fast. Everyone is attatched to radios. The fear of Cuba bombing Washington DC is rapidly increasing. -
An is shot down in Cuba
Today a spy plane is shot down in Cuba. It's an American U-2. THe pilot died, and people are becoming more terrified. -
The Cuban Missile Crisis is over.
Cubans have backed down from bombing Washington DC. Everyone is relieved. The constant worries of being prepared aren't visible. -
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia proclaims abolition of slavery. The slavery in Saudi Arabia is finally ending. People are now letting the slaves free. -
Kuwait adopts constitution.
From 1962-1963 Kuwait adopts the constitution. They signed into law on November 11, 1962. -
USSR removes bombers from Cuba.
Now the USSR have removed the bombers from Cuba. The US can now remove their blockades, and are safe. The nuclear war between Cuba and the US is almost officialy over. -
Boeing 727
Today the Boeing 727 took it's first flight. It can hold 149 - 189 passengers. It was a compromise between the United Airlines, American AIrlines, and Eastern Air Lines to serve smaller cities. -
Memorandum of Understanding
The "Memorandum of Understanding Between thr USA and Soviet Union regarding the Establishment of a Direct Communications Link" was signed by JFK and Chairman Krushcev today. This links the White House and the Kremlin with a direct communications line. This means they won't have to rely on hand-delivered encoded telegrams to communicate.
