PLO pledge to destroy Israel
There were supposed to be two states in Palestine, a Jewish one and a Palestinian one. The Palestine Liberation Organization formed with a pledge to destroy Israel and replace it with a Palestinian state. -
Six-Day War
Israel launched air strikes against Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, and defeating Arab forces.
Israel then took control of the Golan Heights, Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem. -
Yom Kippur War
Egypt and Syria wanted their territory back from Israel so they launched the Yom Kippur war as a surprise attack. Israel wasn't prepared and needed the support of the US. With our support, Israel began to fight back and after weeks of fighting, both sides agreed to a cease fire. -
Camp David Accords
US President Jimmy Carter invited Sadat(Egyptian president) and Menachem Begin (Israeili prime minister) to Camp David in Maryland and there, an agreement was made where Egypt recognized Israel and Israel returned the Sinai Peninsula. -
Intifada
Palestinian unrest boiled over into a rebellion called an intifada. During this, Palestinian youths battled Israeli troops in street violence. Israel responded with strong military and police resistance.
