Conflict in Israel

  • The Birth of Israel

    The Birth of Israel
Because of Zionism, Jews wanted their own independent region to safely practice their religion and live their truth. A partition was granted in which Palestine would then be divided into two parts - an Arab and Jewish state. Shortly after, David Ben-Gurion declared Israel as independent.
  • The Arab Invasion

    The Arab Invasion
Within a day of Israel becoming independent, they were attacked by Arab armies residing in neighboring countries. Regardless of the fact that over 4 regions combined forces to invade Israel, they were defeated and a cease-fire was brokered.
  • The Six Day War

    The Six Day War
After convincing the UN to remove their troops from the Gulf of Aqaba, Egypt closed it off, coincidentally blocking Israel's way to the red sea. Fearing Egypt would attack, Israel chose to strike first, the element of surprise on their side. Because of this, Israel gained ownership of the Gaza Strip, Sinai Peninsula, Golan Heights, and West Bank.
  • The Yom Kippur War

    The Yom Kippur War
The Yom Kippur War was a surprise attack on Israel by Arabs from neighboring countries. Hence the name, this attack was named after the Jewish holiday in which it took place. With support from the United States, Israel managed to push back these forces and regain their land which resulted in a cease fire.
  • The Camp David Accords

    The Camp David Accords
Although many of the wars between Israel and the Arabs ended in a cease fire, no peace agreement was ever brokered until now. In 1977, Egyptian president Anwar Sadat made an announcement: He wanted peace with Israel. With this agreement, Egypt recognizes Israel as an independent state with different beliefs from their own.
