  • Six-Day War

    Six-Day War
    Egypt had closed off Israel's route to the Red Sea and fearing an attack, Israel decided to strike first. Israeli forces rapidly defeated the Arabs. The war ended with Israel gaining control of land in the West Bank and Gaza with a large Palestinian population.
  • Palestine Liberation Organization

    Palestine Liberation Organization
    The PLO started guerrilla attacks against Israel. They wanted to destroy Israel and replace it with a Palestinian state.
  • Yom Kippur War

    Yom Kippur War
    Egypt and Syria wanted their territories back so they launched the Yom Kippur War. Israel was not prepared for this but when the US troops aided the war effort, it pushed back the Egyptian and Syrian forces. Both sides agreed to a cease-fire soon after.
  • Camp David Accords

    Camp David Accords
    This agreement signified peace between Israel and Egypt. Egypt would recognize Israel and Israel would return the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt.
  • Intifada

    Intifada
    Palestinian youths fought Israeli troops in widespread street violence. Israel tried to stop it with military and police resistance, but the battle continued.
