  • Six-Day War

    Six-Day War
    Israel launched a pre-emptive attack on Egypt and then Jordan, and Syria joined the war. It lasted up to six days and left Israel in control of east Jerusalem, all of West Bank, Gaza, Golan Heights and Sinai.
  • Yom Kippur War

    Yom Kippur War
    Egypt and Syria launched a co-ordinated attack against Israeli forces. The Isreali's government wasn't fully prepared for the attack and needed more military support from the United States. "After weeks of fighting, both sides agreed to a cease-fire." During that time, Arabs declared a refusal to sell oil to countries supporting Israel, including the U.S.
  • Camp David Accords

    Camp David Accords
    Egyptian President, Anwar Sadat made a declaration that Egypt wanted peace with Israel. To help facilitate this peace, U.S. president Jimmy Carter invited Sadat and Menachem Begin to Camp David. They had finally reached an agreement, Egypt recognized Israel and Israel returned the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt.
  • Invasion of Lebanon

    Invasion of Lebanon
    The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) formed a pledge to destroy Israel and replace it with a Palestinian state. shortly after that, PLO launched a campaign of guerrilla attacks against Israel. To stop the PLO attacks, they invaded Lebanon.
  • Intifada

    Intifada
    In 1987 Palestinian resentment if Israeli turned into a rebellion called the intifada. There was widespread street violence between them. Israel acted with a strong military and police resistance, but the fighting continued until the early 1990s.
