Centronics and Digital Equipment Corporation DEC both brought the dot matrix printer to market. Centronics focused on the more affordable market for printers. They were only replaced in the 1990s when USB came along.
The concept of the dot matrix printer was invented by Fritz Karl Preikschat. He submitted several patents for what he called a teleprinter from 1952 to 1954. -
