Computer Timeline of the Decades

  • The 200A Audio Oscillator

    The 200A Audio Oscillator
An organization named Hewlett Packard is founded. It was a small business in a garage of a Palo Alto. In here, they came up with this device, the 200A Audio Oscillator, which was basically a computer focused on making sound effects. This is important because having an audio recording and projecting machine is a very key component to a computer.
  • The First Language

    The First Language
Konrad Zuse worked on the Plankalkul Calculus, the first algorithmic computer language. This is important, because all computers need a form of language to run, and this is a good way to keep everything focused. Sadly, only one of his models, the Z4 survived World War 2.
  • Sir Fredrick Williams

    Sir Fredrick Williams
The William's tube was created by Sir Fredrick Williams. This tube was one of the first primary memories out there. It worked by using colors and dots to create a binary code. This is important because having the binary code being created and input into the computer is a very key invention to modern day computers.
  • Grace Hopper

    Grace Hopper
Grace Hopper made what is supposedly the first compiler, a program which allows computers to use human-like words instead of numerical values. Many video games and other software programs are constructed based off of that method.
  • Magnetic Storage is a hit

    Magnetic Storage is a hit
The era of magnetic storage was off with a bang when IBM's shipment of 305 RAMAC disks came to the Zellerbach Paper in San Francisco. Having secondary storage is very important for a computer to save work, even if this only held 5 megabytes worth of data.
  • The first industrial robot

    The first industrial robot
The first industrial robot is made using the ai and binary code of computers. Of course this is important, because many companies and factories work around machines to make and stack the materials.
  • The inspiration of apple

    The inspiration of apple
The Nova minicomputer is created. Using this design, Steve (Jobs) Wozniak is able to come up with the idea to create the Apple I a couple years later. Having "Apple" in the world is a very luxurious means of living. Everything needs a start, and this is just it.
  • The first e-mail

    The first e-mail
Even though he was supposed to be working on something else, Ray Tomlinson had decided to invent and send the first e-mail. It had gone to a military network, and had said something along the lines of
"Qwertyuiop". This is very important, for e-mail is a really relied on source of communication in the modern world. This also lead the creation of the @ sign.
  • CP/M

    CP/M
Gary Kildall creates another language for a computer, the CP/M. This allowed different operating systems to work on other eight-bit processors. This is a very important step towards file transfering and sharing.
  • "Doom"

    "Doom"
The video game, Doom is released. It was one of the first to be able to have level editors and interactive/flexible levels. This game was the building blocks that paved ways for many popular franchisessuch as Halo.
