    Completed by the Bell Telephone Laboratories and designed by George Stibitz, it was able to perform calculations. This amazed many people, and was important in the research of computers to come. It set the background for computer technology.

    The first practical stored-program computer was assembled by Maurice Wilkes. This is when the 'subroutine', a library of short programs, were first put into use. This was a huge milemarker for creating computer memory.

    The PDP-1 was the first precurser to the minicomputer, and sold for $120,000. This is what allowed the creation and discovery of smaller devices.

    The Nova minicomputer was one of the first of the true minicomputers. For $8,000, it had 32 kilobytes of memory. This was a big step in technology, and making computers available to the public.
  • The Alto

    The Alto
    The Alto was the first work station that used a mouse for input. It could link to a networ, as well as use windows, menus, and icons. This was the first computer that really started to sell well. It allowed people to open up to the posiibilities of computers and how helpful they were.
  • The Apple II

    The Apple II was a huge success. It had a printed circuit motherboard, switching power supply, keyboard, case assembly, manual, game paddles, A/C powercord, and cassette tape. The number of people now buying computers shot up dramatically. This kind of technology was incredible and somewhat alien to many, and was one of the most amazing technical advances.

    Selling for just under $600, the Commodore 64 was attracting more of the general public. The graphics were amazing, and there were many programs and software was available. It was put in the Guinness World Record for the greatest single selling computer of all time with 22 million purchases.

    The Pentium Processor allowed computers to run much faster and be much smarter. This was the beginning of making Core Processors, which allow us to do many of the things we do on our computers today.
