Computer history timeline

  • The Difference Machine

The Difference Machine, made by Charles Babbage, was the first conceptualised machine that would be able to solve complex mathematics.
  • The Turing Machine

The Turing Machine provided a formalization of computational and algorithmic concepts. His machine is a good representation, or model, of a general-purpose computer. The device printed out symbols on paper tape in such a way that it emulated a person's instructions.
  • The Z1

The Z1was the first programmable computer made by Konrad Zuse. Additionally, it was the first electromechanical computer that ran on binary programming.
  • The Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC)

Atanasoff was said to be the creator of the first electrical and digital computer. This computer had more than 300 tubes for "digital computation" and binary math. However, it did not have a CPU, this meant that it was not a fully functioning computer.
  • The ENIAC

The ENIAC is considered by most as the first digital computer because it took up 1,800 square feet, it had 18,000 vacuums and, it had a CPU, therefore making it programmable.
  • Programma 101

In 1964, the public was exposed to the Programma 101 as the first desktop computer. Invented by Giorgio Perotto around 44,000 units were sold, each at $3,200.
  • Altair 8800

In 1971, Ed Roberts had created the first Personal Computer, the computer relied on switches for input and output data.
  • Osborne I

On April 1981, the first portable computer was made by Adam Osborne, and it weighed 24.5lbs.
  • Macbook

Apple made their first Macbook in 2006. It was a new innovation, not the first "modern" PC but it was the most popular, and now the most recognizable.
  • Sunway TaihuLight

This is rated as the most advanced supercomputer of 2016. With more than 10 million cores, a storage larger than 1 million gigabytes and a power level of 15,000 kW. However, it is kind of hard to believe that we, as humans, could come up with this despite our previous computers from 1822, it proves that humans are an ever-evolving species, in the next 100 years who knows what we could have accomplished.
