    Complex Number Calculator is Completed
    Bell Telephone Labratories complete the Complex Number Calculator designed by George Stibitz. He demonstrated it at a conference at Dartmouth College. He preformed calculations using a Teletype connected over telephone remotely. It is important because it was the first demonstration of remote access computing.

    The Manchester Mark I Computer started functioning, using the Williams Tube as memory. It was the prototype for Ferranti Corporations first computer. It is important because it was one of the first working computers to ever be made.

    Lyons Tea Co. built a commercial computer to try and help fix problems with schelduling production. After its success, they started manufacturing computers. It is important because it was England's first commercial computer and started the production of data processing systems.

    MIT Reasearchers built the first, programmable computer with transisitors. It was important because it was the first programmable computer and hosted some of the first imaginative tests of programming.
  • PDP-1

    PDP-1 was the base of the minicomputer. It sold for $120,000, and only 50 were made. It didn't need air conditioning and only needed one operator. It was important because without it we might not have the minicomputer today.
  • Nova

    Nova
    Data General Corp., introduced the Nova minicomputer. It had 32 kilobytes of data, and was $8,000. It is important because it was one of this first computers with "modern' design and was more compact than other computers before it.
  • Kenbak-1

    The Kenbak-1 was the first personal computer, sold for $750. It used medium and small scale integrated circuits. It had 256 byte memory. After selling 40 computers. Kenbak Corp. shut down.

    Alto
    Reasearchers at the Palo Alto Research center design the Alto computer, the first work station computer with a mouse. It was important because it contained some of the first feature in the computers we have today.
  • PS/2

    PS/2
    IBM introduced its PS/2 machines, which featured Intel´s 80386 chip. IBM sold more than 1 million computers by the end of the year. IBM released a new operating system, OS/2, at the same time, which included a mouse. It was important because it was one of the first popular computers.
  • Macbook

    Apple introduced a new computer called the Macbook, which had new and improved features before only found on Apple's professional computers. It was important because it featured more storage, with 2 RAM slots.
