    The first Chinese Abacus was invented around 500 A.D. The abacus, as we know it today, was used in China around 1300 A.D. Often referred to as the first computer, the Abacus is an instrument used to perform arithmetic calculations. The abacus was the worlds first calculator.

    The early years of computing brought us machines that were only used for and could only do math problems. The machine consisted of levers and gears to help it with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. These big machines took a while to figure out the equations and had no memory.

It interfaced with a wide number of standard laboratory instruments, allowing customers to computerize their instrument systems. The computer also marked HP's first use of integrated circuits in a commercial product.
